Korekiyo Takahashi, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan, seeking investors in Japanese wartime bonds in New York
These documents from February 1903, just prior to the Russo-Japanese War of 1904, relate to the offer of Japanese bonds and market quotations. At that time, Korekiyo Takahashi, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Japan, traveled to New York seeking investors in Japanese wartime bonds. During this visit, Takahashi made the acquaintance of Jacob Schiff, a German-Jewish banker, who facilitated the procurement of 5 million Pounds Sterling in Japanese bonds and paved the way for New York banks to provide additional loans to the Japanese government.
