Dinner in honor of Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Kaya by The Japanese Residents in New York
Tsunenori Kayonomiya (January 27, 1900 – January 3, 1978) was a military officer who rose to the rank of lieutenant general in the army and served as division commander of the Tokyo and Nagoya units and as president of an army college.
During the war, he asked the Showa Emperor to decide to end the war early. On October 14, 1947, he was demoted to the rank of vassal, and three days later, he registered as a commoner and became Kaya Tsunenori. He was expelled from public service immediately after his descent from the imperial court.
The people loved him as a “Commoner Royal,” and his lifestyle was simple. In 1934, he attended a game at Yankee Stadium in New York, U.S.A. He was also known as “Royal of Baseball.” This dinner was held on this occasion.
