Born in Tochigi Prefecture, younger brother of Toshi Shimizu. He moved to the U.S. around 1921 to study at the Art Students League, and remained in New York after his brother moved to France in 1924. He exhibited at the Salons of America in 1927, 1935, and 1936, exhibition of Japanese Art, sponsored by New York Shimpo in 1927, 1935, and 1936, and the Paintings by New York Chinese Japanese Artists in 1937. He has contributed art criticism to Japanese-language newspapers, and his work was also exhibited in the 1977 exhibition Half Century of Japanese Artists in New York, 1910′-1950′ at the Azuma Gallery.
