The First Japanese Newspaper “Japanese American Commercial Weekly” established in 1900

Founded in 1900, the Nichibei Shūhō (later renamed Nichibei Jihō; English name: Japanese American Commercial Weekly) was the first long-running Japanese newspaper issued in New York. It continued to publish for more than 40 years until the U.S. government ordered it to cease publication in 1941. An article published on July 1, 1924, described the protest against the Immigration Act of 1924, which banned immigration from countries throughout Asia, including Japan
